Modal resolution is critical to the extraction of the dispersion curves and modal ratios which are often used in the inversion of the seabed geoacoustics parameters. In this paper, two ways of modal resolutionshort time Fourier transform(STFT) and warping transform are compared in separating modes, and then the extraction of modal ratios, which are used in the inversion of the seabed attenuation. These two methods are applied to the simulated data and experimental data collected in the Yellow sea of China during in the winter of 2018. The results show that the warping technique has advantage over the STFT in modal resolution, especially in the close receiving range.
