Strengthening effect of Na_2CO_3 on preparation of rutile by microwave combined with hydrochloric acid

With Panzhihua titanium slag as the research subject, the effect of Na_2CO_3 pretreatment on the preparation of rutile-type TiO_2 by microwave combined with hydrochloric acid was studied in this paper. The final products of Na_2CO_3 pretreatment with different mass ratios and direct hydrochloric acid leaching without pretreatment were compared. It was found that when the mass ratio of sodium carbonate to titanium slag was 0.4, the rutile-type TiO_2 with 93.75% content was obtained. The contents of TFe, SiO_2, Al_2O_3, MgO and CaO were 0.561%, 3.513%, 1.829%, 0.031% and 0.316%, respectively. XRD and SEM analysis showed that symbolic characteristics of rutile-type TiO_2 appeared in calcined slag after pretreatment with Na_2CO_3. Na_2CO_3 could destroy the structure of titanium slag and provide an effective strengthening means for hydrochloric acid leaching.
