The phosphate buffer solution extraction method and distilled water extraction method are used to determine the contents of cold water insoluble nitrogen and hot water insoluble nitrogen of three different types of urea-formaldehyde slow-release fertilizers. The precision and significant difference of the two different extraction methods are verified with F test and t test. The effects of different extracts on nutrient release characteristics of urea-formaldehyde slow-release fertilizers are discussed. High precision can be achieved in determination of the contents of cold water insoluble nitrogen and hot water insoluble nitrogen of urea-formaldehyde slow-release fertilizers with both phosphate buffer solution extraction method and distilled water extraction method, and there is no significant difference between the two determination methods; the distilled water extraction method is convenient and fast, and is more suitable for laboratory operation.
